What is a personality assessment?
A personality assessment is a structured questionnaire or evaluation tool used by matchmakers to understand a client's behavioral traits, communication preferences, and relational patterns in order to identify compatible matches.
Matchmakers use personality assessments to gather systematic information about how clients think, interact, and form relationships. These intake evaluations typically measure behavioral traits, emotional responses, values, and attachment styles that influence romantic compatibility.
Common assessment formats include DISC profiles, which categorize communication and decision-making styles (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, Conscientiousness). Myers-Briggs inspired questionnaires evaluate preferences around introversion/extroversion and how people process information. Attachment-style assessments identify patterns from early relationships that affect how someone bonds with partners, distinguishing between secure, anxious, avoidant, and fearful attachment orientations.
These tools serve several practical purposes. They help matchmakers filter incompatible pairings before introductions occur, reducing wasted time and uncomfortable dates. They reveal communication preferences, conflict resolution styles, and dealbreakers that matter more than surface demographics. An assessment might show that one client needs emotional expressiveness while another prefers analytical processing, flagging a potential mismatch.
Most matchmaking services administer assessments during initial consultations, either as written questionnaires, interviews, or both. The results inform the matchmaker's strategy for introduction selection and sometimes guide pre-date coaching. Since personality assessments are subjective snapshots rather than predictive guarantees, they work best when combined with a matchmaker's experience and direct client conversation.
